NEED help with 35 hp Johnson!!

I have a 1983 35 hp Johnson with electric start. I think I’m missing the rectifier. The motor won’t recharge the battery and I orderd a rectifier to replace. We cannot find the rectifier on the motor and looking at pictures online, I think I’ve figred out where it is supposed to be. If someone has a 1983ish 35 hp Johnson with electric star PLEASE take a picture of the motor under the cowling on the starboard side.

Refer to the picture below. Just like my motor, the bracket with the circular hole below the flywheeel and to the right of the fuel filter is exposed. Mine has no rectifier there and is open like that.

The picture below is the front view of the same style motor and it shows the rectifier wand terminal block attatched to that bracket. what gives?

the picture has a rectifier regulator installed
its about the size of 5-6 quarters stacked up
in the pic, its just above and to the left of the carb linkages little white plastic clip.
its a small cylinder turned on its side, with wires coming out
1 yellow coming from the stator, and usually a red going to the battery cable at teh starter solenoid, or possibly a connection block, that leads to the battery cable

Thanks Chris, I found out, (with the help of the parts lady at Charleston Marine in fact…) that my motor was originally a rope start as indicated by the R in the J35RCTS model number. Someone installed an electric start kit on the motor but cheaped out and didn’t put the charging kit on it. Got the charging kit on order and am going to put it on when it comes in!
