Need lots of rocks

Had a bunch of creek bank wash away in the storms and tides last weekend. If anyone has a connection on broken up concrete or rip rap please let me know. we need it on James island and have a vacant lot to dump it on. We lost about 6 feet of bank for a stretch of about 70 feet. We are now scrambling to try to fill it in with granite rip rap. But it’s not cheap!!

Thanks

There is a place up 52 that has lots of concrete chunks. Don’t remember the name though. Call one of the concrete companies and ask them where they dump at.

We had a freshwater creek wash out in Atlanta, and wanted to shore it up. Turns out we needed permission from the dept of the interior or something. For your sake I would make sure you are in the regs before putting concrete/granite in the creek -

There’s a place at the Virginia Ave exit on 526 that sells recycled/recovered concrete. Not sure on pricing but they move a LOT of it.

conforming what mhebbard said, do not get caught placing it back without a permit. You will wish you did.

Concrete used for rip rap has to be clean and cannot have steel sticking out. If you don’t have a permit you need to contact scdhec ocrm office over on McMillan ave. They may give you an emergency permit. If you get caught without a permit you will have to remove all that you have done, rebuild the river bank and pay a massive fine…

I have seen some concrete and bricks offered free on the Craigslist under FREE.Best of luck

Call for the emergency permit. Remediaition of the un-approved dumping even in “emergency situations” can be heafty. The only exemption is truly loss of life & property is immininet. Natural Resource Damages fines outweigh the normal fines for no permit.

SCDHEC is your friend for this. < that’s funny after I read it. Haha. Well maybe not your friend but you def don’t want them on your bad side. apply for emergency permit (I would go down in person). Knowing somebody down there is always a good thing. YMMV at this time due to the nature of “emergency”. Good luck!!

I agree with others - get approval from OCRM (part of DHEC) and possibly the Corps of Engineers before you start. In a true emergency situation, they will respond quickly. OCRM’s main office is at the old navy base. If possible, take before and after photos to show the erosion caused by the storms. Focus on this being maintenance and repair of an existing structure.

What he said! It isn’t worth the fines or the labor and money to remove what you put down without the permit. OCRM will give you a permit then check your work.
