Need Machine Shop to make Tilt Tube

Anyone know of a good machine shop around Summerville that can make a tilt tube from my old one? I have had them made before at machine shops back home before I moved to the Charleston area. But I have no idea who is a good machine shop since I have yet to have a need for one yet.

Get it made in stainless if you can. If you find a reasonable place, let us know. I wouldn’t mind one for a 70 yamaha.

That’s the plan. A new one runs about $150-$160 for a stainless with new nuts and washers. And I can get a used one off ebay for about $50. So if I can get one fabricated for somewhere in the middle, that’s what I’ll do.

I have the capabilty of making them just let me know what you got.

If you can get a machine shop to make you one for about in the middle, he won’t be in business long, and I would not trust the quality/dependability of it.

Just sayin,…

Hey Telum, if you get one made, would you mind posting pics, and letting us know how much? I gave mine a good cleaning but figure I’ll have to do it all over again in a year. If it is SS, I would think you would not have the same problems with it?

what motor do you guys have
we sell the tubes for around 80-90 depending on model
washers and nuts cost about 28

2003 Yamaha 70 TLRB. Would SS make any difference? Mine is pitted/corroded (I have since cleaned it but is it still pitted) inside and that is contributing to the steering getting all stiff at least once a year. Seems like SS might alleviate some of that problem?

Oh and Chris, this may be a stupid question but it appears that since that is the pivot point for the motor, it would seem that the motor would have to be supported by some other means rather than by the bracket itself. Is this the case?

that is the pivot point
we usually trim the motor all the way down and put a floor jack under the skeg on the smaller motors like a 70
the bigger motors we support from a hoist

Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■ everyone.

I ended up finding a good smooth used tube for $40 and went that route. This tube came off a fresh water boat and motor. So no corrosion issues like mine had.

Thanks for the info Chris. Since I can get by without one for now, I’ll get you to order me one when I can get past a couple of bills.

I have a stainless tilt tube for a 90 & 115 hp OMC it may fit other
OMC engines also ??
