in desperate need of a new steering system for my 15.5’ high tide center console. I want something that i can turn with minimal effort at all speeds. higher ratio with more turns and les effort. also, the steerin cable prob only needs to be 6-8ft max. current power is a 2000 2stroke 2 cynlinder johnson 50hp. please gimme some suggestions.
Teleflex rotary system as I doubt you will have room for a rack system. Either a small standard system (Safe-T) or a No ■■■■■■■■ (NFB Safe-T II) depending on your budget. Both will have no problem turning a 50; I think they are usually 3 to 3.5 turns lock to lock.
Look at the old steering cable about 2 feet before where it attaches to the outboard. If it is a Teleflex cable it will have the part number shown. The last two number is the length in feet. If not, take the old one out and measure only the rubber/plastic part inbetween the metal crimps on either end. Add 18" and round up the nearest foot for the proper length Teleflex cable. I guarantee it needs to be longer than 8 feet as the shortest length sold is a 9 foot.
Once you check your cable length, I have one for sale. It is a complete system. Once you add in all the bends, it will come out longer than you think for the cable. Good luck.
thanks man, already looked at your listing. there is just NO way that it can be longer than 10ft. just no way. its a straight shot from the helm to the motor. 2 bends. one at the helm and one at the motor. that it. is the NO ■■■■■■■■ the way to go though?
cracked my gearcase/foot on the motor this weekend, hit somethin (just barely enough to catch the prop, and enough to crack off a piece of the skeg. guess im just gonna have to get a new one. suggestion on lightest, fastest, quietest 2stroke. I have found that a slow boat annoys me due to the fact that i run somewhat long distances. this may be the problemwith my motor now. TOO many hours. well over 1000 since ive owned it. and that hasnt even been that long. i figure i may just part out whats good on it, and go from there.
you will have to buy all new control cables and controls. I don’t know what your boat is rated for but if you are looking for a 60 yamaha the you will have to buy a yamaha four stroke which in my opinion is a dog but if you can put a 70hp on it then that will be your best bet. you will be lookin around $6500 with installation and all your controls and cables. A 50hp is about $5,000 with installation, controls and cables. You might save with a mercury or an etec but not a lot. good luck dude
From reds to marlin you got it.
