On the subject of rays, fishing Saturday off the dock on the Coosaw 2 hours before low tide that’s all we caught. All off dead shrimp. Nothing else.
Stanjwarren, were you coming up with 90% reduction in sharks? Give it a month for temps to come up and I can put you on all the sharks you can stand. Not all big ones, but plenty of them. Personally, I’d say they are more of an aggravation now than 30 years ago.
the small coastal shark( sharpnose, finetooth, blacknose, bonnethead)populations have skyrocketeted since we have wiped out most of the large coastal sharks (bull, lemon, sandbar, spinner, blacktip, tiger) The big sharks eat the small sharks.
.
NMFS = No More Fishing Season
“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

Thought we had more. I’ve heard a lot of shark fishers tell me that the best bait for a big shark was a small one. Think that may also be why the ray population seems so high? I still have a hard time believing Shark population is down 90%, but maybe?
