stay away from the lighthouse end…too much responsibility down that way…plus it is dangerous getting there…

The Morris Island Lighthouse www.savethelight.org

lighthouse end is probably a problem
1 go ocean side and have troubl finding the channed

  1. go from inland and get lost in the marsh, especially from harbor side??

so whats the best alternative to Morris ISland?

Go from Folly landing at low-mid tide while creeks are visible. When I go to the lighthouse end of Morris, that’s how I go (but I go to walk the beach, not hang out with the crowds). It’s a little tricky at high tide, but no big deal if you’re used to navigating the creeks around here.

Guides don’t post because of all the idiots who will go after their spot by using the photo, also no one cares about sharing a good day with a whole bunch of people from Ohio, and all of the non-charleston people. Revert to the year 2004 and you will find some, by the way how many people reading this have been here since then??

I have. Seems the people that go to Morris Island now either haven’t been in Charleston too long or are tourists. They don’t appreciate what it is and have already ruined it for the rest of us. Nor do half of them know ANYTHING about boating, salt or fresh. I can remember when you could go there and see families with little kids. Now it’s the closest beach any idiot with a boat can get to from the harbor. We all know what Morris Island will be like on any given summer weekend. I grew up going to Capers every weekend, that got ruined too. It’s “progress”. If you don’t like it don’t go. If you do go, you should know what to expect and not complain about it. It isn’t going to get any better until there is someone there to fix it. And that’s a whole other discussion.

I knew this post was getting ready to go off! Fun to sit back and enjoy

we had been trying to go b4 1 PM, seems like thats when the drinking crowd “wakes up”?? and gets out there. Its nice b4 then- wind, seagulls, etc. no dogs.
we might try to go more during the week.

Yea, early works better for us as well. It’s not ALWAYS as bad as reported here but is also as bad or worse at times. It can be a zoo and I just try to help those that need it (whether they know it or not!) in hope they’ll figure it out and get it right next time. If you can’t do that for a fellow boater, best to just stay away. We don’t typically stay long, just an hour or two for wife to shell so probably not as bad in small doses! Also, figured this thread needed it’s daily push!

Got A better idea, don’t go to lighthouse end of Morris island unless you are responsible, for yourself, your kids, and your dog!I like it there!

Hey King, not all non-Charlestonians are bad. My family and I choose to drive 4 hours round trip to come to your fair city to do our boating. I don’t drink when I boat, play loud music, cuss in front of women or kids and I don’t leave my trash behind. In fact, I have taught my kids to pick up trash they see and tell them if everyone did that we would have a cleaner world. Some folks just don’t have any respect for others and feel like they have every right to do as they please regardless of how it impacts others. That is not me or my family.

Rich kids in daddy’s boat.

I am on or working on boats everyday. This thread’s topic is why I dont boat when the weather is warm. Heck, I dont even own a boat anymore and I love getting out on the water. Just like in any sport, there are the people that will trash and party and then there are those that just love being out there.

It is just the way it is. Some people party hard with out thinking about others and some have all the respect in the world for others and the surroundings.

Just my thoughts on the topic anyway.
