When I was in Miami, I lived on a small freshwater lake. The was full of small panfish called Mayan Cichlid. I tried to catch them with my niece and nephew with worms like any panfish would annihilate. But, the problem was, they were not interested. So, eventually I just bought some live minnows, and we caught a few larger ones here and there, and some largemouths, and peacock bass. I only really fly fished in that lake and always did pretty well with peacocks, etc. Then one day, I noticed this like 9-10 year old kid and he was waxing the Mayans. He had my curiosity, so I walked over to see what he was using for bait. Boiled shrimp that he bought from the grocery store. Yeah, boiled shrimp in freshwater and they were nailing it… Okay, at that point, I figured I had seen everything…

I guess it just proves the point , ya don’t know till ya try.
I’m gonna try for some cats this week and if I catch i’ll post

Gail, how about pieces of ivory soap and grapes for Cat’s in the lake.:wink: really.

I have a friend that has caught catfish at Lake Monticello with marshmallows.

Fred, I have heard of catching catfish on small pieces of soap too, never tried it though…wonder if they would like Dial or Irish Spring?

I read that, and my only thought was…

How long does it take him to get the stank off of his fingers?

Ivory soap....Catfish eat the crap out of muscadines .

Key West 1720 115 HP Johnson Saltwater.

Growing up we’d bait trotlines with ivory soap. The cats would eat it; turtles wouldn’t touch it. I’ve heard stories about using WD40 for a fish attractant, but I’ve never tried that.

I’ve caught sea bass using Cheetos…but in all fairness I’ve caught them on bare shiny hooks before too.

May all your favorite bands stay together…

WD works on old chicken for cats , been there ,done it , but someone said weren’t suppose to use it because of oil in water.:question:Not worth
a ticket when cut bait perch/shad/bream and crappie seems to do better. I was more surprised at using the foam rubber as a carrier even though some use the foam trebles coated in store bought stink
baits…
Side note: years ago used to carp fish in PAY carp ponds , favorite bait was minute rice/w ketchup , just enough ketchup to moisten rice, get palmfull place hook in center and squeeze , made great rice balls and
carp loved them!!!

Here’s a question for the masses. Is there something Black Sea Bass won’t eat?

Just Ivory. cut into cube with band saw and drill small hole. put on trot lines like 23sailfish said. Never caught anything but cats on it.
