Net for the grandchildren

Today I got a 4’ net for my 10 and 7 year old granddaughters. I took it over to their house this evening so they could try throwing it. I had them on the tailgate of my truck. It took a few tries but they both started throwing it where they were aiming and opening it fairly well. I taught them the Calusa method. I thought with a net that small it would be hard to do the Calusa method. It wasn’t! They are now ready to go try it for real. The first time I take them I will do the one pole method so they aren’t trying to cope with a moving boat. It will be moving enough just being in the water. I’m going to absolutely cover each side with so much bait that if they get the net in the water they will hit bait. I can’t wait to see their faces when they actually pull in a shrimp they caught. It’s going to be great!!!

Great idea Mr Hardware. That’s a smart way to start them off throwing a net.Hope you guys have a good time when you take them out for the first time.Yeah I would the same thing you said throw enough bait around the boat so it wouldn’t matter where they thrrew they would be throwing on top of bait…Goodluck

With bait all around your boat, the shrimp might. be hopping oin there for ya! I was gonna do that this season with my little brother but outs of commission. Good luck to yall!

I took my 8 year old son shrimping last year. Here he is throwing his 4ft net. He actually caught the first shrimp of the year for us. Too bad the year so bad. He caught a couple of shrimp last Saturday. He throws a pancake about 1/2 of the time.

Wonderful experience watching him throw. Makes you proud.
