Not only had I never caught one on a lure, I’ve never even heard of anyone else catching a shrimp on a jig. I was trout fishing, casting my jig out and letting it settle to the bottom, then twitching it and dragging it a foot or so across the bottom. I thought I had a piece of grass or some other trash…until I lifted this shrimp out of the water. The hook went in its mouth and came out the top of its head right between its eyes. Have you ever heard of such??
You fish long enough and you are apt to see pretty much anything. You must have jerked it at the right time and foul hooked him. You need to seine that area.
Pretty cool. I have foul hooked shrimp and glass minnows while using artificials on jigs. The funniest catch was when I got my boat new, the first fish I caught with a Zman jig was a mullet. He actually hit it like a trout would. So bizarre.
Where I fish for trout, the mullet are THICK. It’s hard not to foul hook them. That said, I’ve lost count of the mullet that have actually bitten the jig like a trout would do. It happens.
