Never caught or even seen a Red

I’ve done a lot of fishing in the area as I’ve grown up here. Just got into fly fishing a couple months back, but yet to have caught anything on the fly. Only know one flat to go to, been hunting Reds there. Thought about it, don’t even know if I would know a tailling fish, cause I’ve never really been in the flats before. Even though I don’t see or catch anything, I enjoy wadin out on the flat, but actually learning what I’m looking for, seeing and catching would make it that much better.
Anybody got any ideas for me?

It is a learning process. You have to try several spots, notice how they hold water, try different tide phases, if there is bait present. Notice where the feeder creeks are and start there. When you see that tail it is unmistakable. The more places you can find that hod water at differnet levels the better chance you have of finding fish.

I think I caught my first saltwater fish after about 9 or 12 months of trying. Back when Charleston Angler didn't even exist.

I’m thinking that if you show that you are putting in the effort then, people will will likely be happy to help you, equally. Just MY thoughts.

well luckily the charleston angler does exist now, come in, I will talk with you and we’ll see what we can do about getting the skunk off your back…

I had an advatage coming here. I had alot of fly-fishing experience (none saltwater) and I had a job that constanty surrounded me with people who knew the saltwater game… I studied them, took advice, and practiced my casting…

My first night on a flat I landed 4 reds on the fly… It changed me in ways I cannot put into words. Ive only landed 4 fish in one tide on a few other occasions… it was like a shot of heroine strait to the heart… I’ll never be the same again…

I hope you can have a day like that…

but I digress… like I said, come talk to me… I’ll do what I can to help, as would anyone else on here… it just so happens to be my job…

Sounds good Mad man, I appreciate it. Planned on goin out for the tides tomorrow afternoon. Which store are you at and I can swing through, if your gonna be there?

I’ll be here pretty much all day tomorrow… 8:30 - 8:30… I’m at the Mt. Pleasant location… come on by anytime… I’m here alot… when I’m not on the water of course…

Drew, you know of 1 flat to go to… well then your ahead of the game already. look for areas like that, also why not just keep fishing that flat and study that flat. other than that good luck

So Ol Drewfuss saw his first tails yesterday and even got a shot at a couple… It was hard for him to tlak through the grin  I think we have created another monster
