Never received my boat tax???

Looked and my boat tag went out last month.Usually i get the tax in the mail pay it and a week later get my boat tag.Paid it yesterday and will go to Ft Johnson and see if they will issue it today??? I guess that is where you go??? Anyone else have that problem?

YES!

and even if you don’t get the notice, it’s still due on time or they penalize you. axe me how I know.

it can all be done online now.

they had 100’s or 1000’s of notices go AWOL a few years ago. The notices never got to the owners due to problems on their end at the county offices or their printer. boat owners still assessed late penalties under the notion that you should remember and pay your boat tax on your own every year w/o being notified.

i yelled at everybody who would listen. county hung up on me. county councilperson -can’t remember which crook it was - was no help [btw, those guys are kings who answer to no one].

Been there too…It’s your fault you didn’t receive a bill, you should have come down and asked for one.

yeah… i got the same BS. got a late notice (first i got) that charged me $30 late fee for my boat AND motor. $60 in late fees on $50 tax bill.

highway robbery.

So will thy send me a sticker or do i go go to ft Johnson.Never had to get one before?

Chump change! I got a property tax bill from Dorchester County and had to tell them that I sold the place 2 years before. Now I know, that sale was recorded in the county records. I at least, got an, I’m sorry from them! The kicker was, they wanted to know the name of the buyer??? DUH

hahaha. no. after you pay your taxes. then go on DNR’s website and pay to renew your registration… then they will send you a new sticker.

Pay your taxes, take the reciept to Ft. Johnson and they’ll do the rest. At lest they did it for me on one of my boats. I’ve never had an issue with them there, always courteous and helpful when you are standing in front of them.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Registration is different than taxes. If your registration sticker is expired you need to go to DNR. Taxes are through the county.

If property taxes aren’t paid the county “red flags” you vessel in the
DNR system, DNR won’t issue a new registration until that is taken off. I had to go to the berkley county delinquent tax office and show them their own receipt to get it taken off of a boat I owned. Moral of the story…keep your tax receipts.

Go to charlesoncounty.org and pay online. Easy peasy.

Somebody in the County dropped the ball on sending me my boat tax.Wife walked over from work and paid it.Now I have to burn gas and time to go get the sticker.Person that dropped the ball should get an ass chewing. Not that i have to drive someplace and get a sticker. It was their job to get the paperwork sent out.How many more people around here did not pay taxes? How many DNR officers got laid off due to lack of funds?

Got the stickers. No problem paid $35.

Tried to pay my taxes in Georgetown County this year…didn’t get a bill 2 years in a row…My boat isn’t even in their system, DNR sent it 2 years in a row… and told me everything was cool on their end…i guess the county doesn’t want my money…they better not ask for back taxes dammit.

“sniff it before you eat it!”

Ab out 2 years ago I had to go Downtown to the delinquent tax office because for 5 years they didn’t send me the taxes for my motor and since it had been that longer DNR had taken it out of thier system. IT is the dumbs thing that I’ve ever had to deal with. I wasted so much gas running back and forth. All that for a little motor decal.

now joe…you know we NEVER get out of paying taxs…even if we dont get a bill…they were hoping you didnt notice so they’d be riding around in your rig

I sold my Key West and Dorchester county still sent me a tax bill stating I owned the boat the 1st day of the year. What a bunch of crooks. Well they got their last tax check last year for any and all boats from me. I will never own another boat in Dorchester County.

So the process isn’t all that hard to understand. A boat isn’t like a car. First if you pay your taxes, great, but you still have to pay your renewal fee to DNR for the stickers, $30 they are good for I think 3 years. Second your taxes are a year behind, whereas with a car you pay a year in advance. Third you are dealing with a state agency and a county agency. Last you have to be sure that your address is correct in both of their computers systems, as they do not share the same system. Once you have done all of that, take a nap because it is exhausting!

Been there too, sold my old boat in early 2010. Dorchester county sent me property taxes for 2010, I said I sold that boat, they said I still have to pay since I owned it for a portion of that year, and if I didn't, the boat would be sold at a tax auction, a boat I don't own anymore mind you. I paid just so the current owner wouldn't be hasseled.

How often are you supposed to receive these tax bills? I bought mine in July of last year and paid sales tax, and my registration through DNR says its good through 8/2012, but the Beaufort County web site doesn’t have a boat under my name for personal property tax, just a car (and one I’ve already sold at that).
