Hi folks,
Newbie here and can’t find my question in previous post. I live right by one of the saltwater marsh in MtP that I suppose feeds off the wando. Last year I had some luck crabbing but really wanted to try fishing. Any idea what kind of fish may be there? It’s not very deep. During high tide maybe 10’ and during low tide <5’ depending. I live in park west community if that helps give an idea of location. Darrell creek and toomer creek are close by.
My question to the forum, is it worth trying to fish in? All I see are minows usually. Though I recently saw about a 2’ long fish (no idea what type) - shaped like a bluegill but obviously way bigger.
New to saltwater fishing (or brackish fishing). Tons of experience in freshwater. Thanks for any advice
Absolutely worth trying to fish your creek! Get you a minnow trap and try some minnows about 18" under a cork or on the bottom. Or some shrimp. If you have minnows and crabs and 5’ of water on low tide, there are eatable fish to be found. I’d bet two nickles if nothing else you could catch a few stingrays/skates.
Not sure on what kind of fish you saw, but I’d bet on a Black Drum.
If your freshwater fishing involves bass try some of your fresh water lures and rubber worms and use the same technics.
Like Fred said, it’s ABSOLUTELY worth a try. Otherwise, you’ll never know.
I learned a long time ago on here, anything inshore will eat a shrimp. Try a popping cork setup, as well as a Carolina rig, and you’re bound to hook something.
Is the place you’re describing near docks and/or structure? And how far away is larger water? Those can be key factors in determining whether the fish are there or not.
And lastly, I’m by NO MEANS anywhere near an expert, but I’ve been fortunate to learn this stuff from the guys (and gals, Penny) on here who know what’s what. Figure it’s only right to pass along the intel. Good luck.
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”

sman is spot on, cast net and gathering live bait… no better odds of catching than live bait.
Back to your knowledge of fresh water fishing. cast after cast of artificial baits or one chunk of a live shiner under a cork… That live shiner, like a live shrimp or minnow will out fish any other bait. Period… Of course many will argue that it is more sporting to catch on artificial, but if you want to increase your chances go live. I personally like to catch em.
