Looks like Congress is paying attention to what the SC House is doing. http://www.ccasouthcarolina.com/Content/News/news-releases/vitter-bill-will-extend-states-offshore-jurisdiction-including-fisheries-management
Wow!! This could be really cool! Keep up the good fight sir!
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
Looks to me like the bill gives DNR the “official” right to enforce fed fishery laws beyond the 3 mile limit. They have been doing this anyway. JMHO

it also gives them exclusive fishery management authority over reef fish within the new boundary.
I read it as allowing states to manage their own fisheries…out to 10 miles. I believe that is the intent to mirror what some gulf states are allowed to do. Giving states management and enforcement authority.
Here is the bill.

It extends state waters 3 leagues from land, which would be just over 9 miles I believe.
Also gives states exclusive management of red snapper. I would love this. I believe a similar bill was introduced back in 2005 when I first got so involved in all these issues because of my favorite fish to fish for (red snapper) being shut down entirely.
Does CCA support this legislation?
Will it have a better chance of passage this time around?
What can we do to help?

I believe this is the primary intent.

We must all remember this when it is time for yellowbird’s run for governor!

Phin: since we don’t have any Red Snapper within 9 miles (unlike Florida) how will that help us? I’d love for us to be able to control the fisheries, but the David Cupkas will never really let us.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. One thing at a time. I would, however, like some support in my upcoming re-election

Thanks for your efforts Mr. Goldfinch. It is groundbreaking for this matter to finally be taken seriously at the Federal level. This should give all of us more reason to stay involved and keep our voice loud and clear. We should make it our mission to educate those fishermen who are not aware of what is going on with our fisheries…increase our numbers and we will continue to be part of the fishery management process. Keep up the good work!
We darn sure have BSB’s That close in the winter time…
Plenty of red snapper caught in the 9 mile range and Mr. Goldfinch for governor ASAP!!!
I would like to see a more common sense approach to these issues, and less governing from state or feds. That being said I appreciate having a voice like yours where it counts yellabird. I would prefer the state to take care of the management for their on waters and fisheries. I feel like this is a huge win for us as a local fishing cummunity.
