New boat input?

This is both an inshore and offshore consideration: I am thinking of going to a Bay Boat. Coming from Columbia, with the weather almost always different than the forecast, plus the joy of hauling all the way to Charleston, I have decided to either go bigger (not a great plan for staying married) or go to a bay. So my question to this semi-illustrious group, is which Bay would you recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Ck. out the video on the new Sea Pro 25’!(Utube) Unreal boat! Wish I could afford one!!

If you plan on going offshore regularly, I would go with a deep v. I can fish a good many places inshore with my 23’ cc. I like comfort and dry over anything.

Thanks for the input and advice. Much appreciated.

If you plan to fish 80% of the time offshore - go with a true CC, preferably a deep v no less than 20 degrees at transom.

This from a blue water fisherman WHO seriously considered the Sea Chaser 24 HFC with 16 degree v. Didn’t buy it. Got the Competition 22 CC

Thanks, all. I have been rethinking along these same lines.

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with the boat you have? Are you calling ten miles offshore, or is fifty miles offshore? If you are just running to the reefs, a bay boat will do it, plus I think you will enjoy it more inshore and on the lake. If you are talking ledge and beyond, not ideal, and you’ll find you better be hardcore to do that from Columbia many times a year. I did it for years, but age and gas prices took a toll on me.

You will be better off to get 2 boats, that will shake up the wife!

Boatpoor/ 7cs,

My wife actually said I could have 2 boats, as long as the new one was a pontoon. Somebody just shoot me, please. My current boat is fine, no problems. I can make long runs on good days (you know when the weather man does not lie). Just thinking about less running and fuel and more versatility.

I appreciate the input. Lots to think about.

Fixed it for you.

Marriage is overrated.

I have been very happy with my World Cat. Lots of room and a great ride when it gets sporty.

Nice solution. Might work! need to get to Chastown to see a few. None here in Cola, none at our “bote show”

The boat builders seem to be building more of the larger bay boats, so someone is buying them. I can’t say I’ve tried them, but I’m not seeing them at the ledge. Maybe the length helps the ride, but when it gets rough, the more freeboard the better, IMO. The bay boats might work offshore in the Gulf, and would be okay on the best days here…but it can change so fast. On the other hand, if you fish more inshore or in close, they probably have some advantages there. Maybe you could hitch a ride in one on a less than perfect day?
