If u read my other post u will see I am new to boat fishing… however I have fished the pier and folly near morris for 15 years, I have a 2007 sea hunt triton 202 cc with ttops. I put in at folly beach last weekend to try first time. That is a hard river to navigate due to lots of low spots. Looking to get to jetties or some reefs. Any recommendations and coordinates I have 35 gal tank with 4 stroke Johnson 140 Where would be best boat landing etc. How far are the reefs from jetties? I know they say 1/3 out 1/3 in 1/3 reserves. I do have a lowrance even though it is new to me. It is brand new just bought… (hook 5) I am sure u can put in a position and it will show that on map but not sure how yet. Any advice tips or locations or approx. distance would be much appreciated…
Thx in advance
I would suggest learning your ride and its quirks before venturing into
unknown areas , learn your electronics to interpret what you see , Find
a buddy boat to tag along with that knows the ropes;;; Remember ; it’s easier and safer to stay out of trouble than to get out of trouble!!!
That’s all that boat holds is 35 gallons?
The old owner told me 35. I have not filled it up yet. It may very well be a 60 or it may of been changed to a 35 at one time.
That’s what I thought as well double n. You’ll find out soon enough when you take her to the pump:smiley:. But Gail gave you all the advice you need learn your boat and your electronics well before venturing out past the rocks. Make sure you have all your safety equipment in order before anything.
Hi Spook. About your tank, on my boat(02 sea hunt 17’) there is a maintance cap just Sgt of the console to “access” the fuel tank fo replacing gas gauge, fuel lines and the like. With a flash light I could read a manufacturer stamp in the plastic stating my tank was 32gall capacity. I’d bet you’ll be able to tell if you get down on your knees and take a look.
http://saltwaterfishing.sc.gov/pdf/reefguide.pdf this is a PDF from sc DNR showing all the reef locations. Im also betting that you can indeed input the lat n longs on your hook 5 and it will give you a distance away, bearing, and a handy line to follow.
I’ve taken my boat to the Charleston 60’ a few times and it’s about 12 miles from the beach an 14 miles from the jetties. No cell service out there so I’ll be putting a radio on board this year. I think I burn about 12 gallons to the 60’ and back to eliots cut.
I don’t have anything to add about navigating that inlet at folly, I’ve poked around out there but not much more. I’m sure people go in and out of there, maybe follow behind someone and plot it for later reference. People should chime in on here and give you some input.
There are a few reefs just a few miles off beach in that PDF. Also, you can measure distance in google maps by putting in lay and long from PDF. If you try this, just youse numbers no Cardinal direction and put a “-” between N and W coordinate.
Also, navionics has an app for phones that has a lot of good features. Easily measure distance and what not. I bought the app last year for $10, used it but am not renewing. They have a free version that you should at least check out.

Along with the obligatory mention of “all your safety gear” and what not, think about anchoring out there. You are fishing over sunken rail cars, bridge rubble, sunk ships. Bad juju for anchors.
Drift over structure
Anchor off, put out a ton of rhode and drift over top while anchored
Reef anchor.
Rig your anchor from shackle at bottom and zip tie to to of shank shackle.
Don’t get your anchor hung up and get in trouble trying to drive it off. Just cut it and head home. Keep your eyes peeled for spares on here and Craig’s list and eat it. Anchoring can be tricky, lots of heavy chain HELP a lot.

Spook 572. I am not new to boating but would like to venture out past the jetties also. I am looking for a buddy boat to go out with to some of the near shore reefs. I just purchased a 23’ Neptune WA and would like to leave the harbor. But as mentioned earlier in the thread I have to get to know my boat first to go alone. With a buddy boat I would feel a lot better going out the first time with my new boat. If you are interested inbox me and we set something up.
