New boat

Ok sold the World Cat and thinking about going back over to the dark side " mono hull".

Bote’s I am considering,

21 or 23 seacraft “pre 1989”
23 contender, single engine
23 Blue Water.
All opinion’s appreciated, will be a used bote purchase.

Thanks to all.

Here are some of my hard learned facts:
-Buy the longest boat you can buy (ride is much better for every foot of LOA)
-Weight helps ride and hurts fuel economy less than you think
-Bigger motors burn about the same or even less than smaller motors in most cases (on the same hull in same conditions), so dont under power
-Used saves tons of money (especially in this economy.)
-Dont fall in love with one boat. Find 3 or more you like. If you “have to have it”, you will pay too much.
-Do research and ask questions of those smarter than you. You will be amazed how little the sellers or others know the truth.
-Hold back some funds for unexpected repairs so that you dont have buyers remorse.
-Buy good electronics if you enjoy toys or use them often.
-Consider teaming up with others that like what to boat like you, and have good character and priorities, since a boat that is run often will break less.

Just bought a 90k 35ft CC with twin 4 strokes for 35K$.

the Bluewater is nice but that step is an accident waiting to happen.

If you are looking at pre 89 I would suggest taking a ride on a Wellcraft. I have a 25’ W/A…you might just be looking at CC’s but this is a very wonderfully riding hull, heavy…good dead-rise etc…I have the back cut out of it now building transom. That said; make sure on these older boats (thats all I look at, cant afford anything newer than 90) check for moisture (that nasty vinegar smell), glass encapsulation around stringers etc… You probably know all of this already and apologize but I have done a lot of fiberglass work for people that (including me) didn’t see the rot until it was too late. Best of luck to you…good to hear someone else is looking at older boats

Mike
14’ Polarkraft 25 rude
17’ Hydrasports basser, project pictures coming
Wellcraft 250 Sportsman, complete transom replacement, pictures coming soon

Thanks to all , the pre 89 was just on the Seacraft, since I have been told the “Potter” built ceased 1980 per someone on Seacraft forum.

Buddy of mine has a 23.5 Bluewater that I fished and I was realy impressed.

The Bluewater is a very nice boat. I was looking at a 2550 w/ 200s and it was definitely a nice ride. I didn’t buy it because of the price but probably wouldn’t have because of the step up to the bow area. I guess you would get used to that but it really is dangerous (only in my opinion). I’d roll with the Contender if I were you.

Bluewater all the way.

The step in my boat has never been a problem. Most people who think it will be a big deal have never owned a boat with one.

I guess I’m just a little uncoordinated. I don’t need any additonal help such as trip hazards and such. I’m probably the only one the step would bother.

Actually, the step is an issue only if you like to knock down a few adult beverages while fishing in 3’ seas.

Like the Regulator 23, here great things. However I navigate thru Bulls Bay to head offshore and the W Cat did fine but considering most 23’ it might draw a bit to much h20 over the marginal shallow h20 I cross.
