New DNR/Redfish license plates

Just got mine and I’m pretty upset at the new design. Called DMV to see if I could keep my old plate and use the new sticker. Nope. Asked for a refund. Nope. $75 for this sh**** plate… At least I know the money is for a good cause. I’ll be donating my money to CCA next year instead.

I’m with you. Obviously cheaper to make and it looks it. You can’t even tell what it’s for. Not sure why they changed it other than it’s cheaper to produce. Not even sure what dictates when you need to move on to a new one. My old one was still in good shape, not faded or anything.

Something to do with Traffic cams not being able to read the old ones is a run or I heard for the change.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

I remember reading something last year or so that all of the custom plates will eventually go to the same format. All white with the red and blue stripes at the top.

Yep, all “specialty” plates were changed and personally I think most of them look like crap. I have the old CCA plate, the new ones are plain and boring.

My cop buddy advised me to definitely change the plate. They’re more than aware and will write citations for the old plates if you try to use a new sticker on it. Bummer.

Legislature decided security, tracking individuals, etc. trumped art. The rules will not allow anything behind the numbers. What is weird is Florida and Georgia are still making the artistic plates. See link http://coastalgadnr.org/LicensePlate

I think it is wrong that SC vanity plates are available for out of state colleges…

It’s a money thing. SC is full of “transplants”. Why limit your customer base? Business 101

Most of the money goes to scholarships to go to the out of state school …

Anyone have a picture of the new plate?

while I understand why they are doing this, they should have had the forethought to think beyond this to begin with…Save The Light gets a couple thousand dollars a MONTH for the Lighthouse specialty plates. Now SCDOT is pulling this ****, and those benefactors will suffer because of it…yea, I’ll still keep my LH88 plate, but it just won’t be the same…

Some look better than others but for the most part they made them pretty plain.

Is that what they look like? If so, looks obvious you support SCDNR and are a fisherman…

No doubt it says, “I’m a fisherman”. I think the OP’s point was it is not quite as picturesque as the original design. Looking through SCDMV’s plate gallery, they took some nice looking plates and made them pretty vanilla. It looks a little random but hey, who am I to question the wisdom of state government?

Funny. I’ve never had a vanity plate so maybe I just don’t get it. If you pay the extra money to support an organization you believe in and get to advertise your support, isn’t that the point? You’re gonna pull your support over the aesthetic? I actually like the new plate. Like I said, maybe I just don’t get it…

The point is there’s more than one way to donate your money. I can donate to CCA and buy a chance at winning a boat worth $40k, or I can donate the same amount for this sh**** DNR plate.

Here’s the old plate, way better.

Do incarcerated people still make license plates?

Hey flywatt, I gotcha. I grew up in Alabama. It pissed me off when they dropped “heart of Dixie” off the plates. Honestly it pissed me off when SC changed the plates this last go round. The old SCDNR fisherman plates are nice and everyone knows them well. The wheel keeps turning and we can’t get off. I hope you win that new boat. Cheers!
