New electronics

So I am sure a lot of you already know i am a new boat owner, been on em all my young life though and just wanna learn as much as possible, so I just bought a new Garmin GPS, I had it in my hands for the 5 hour drive from home in Charleston to where I live right now in westrern Nc and then straight to my trusty boat guy from Fla. It is a 440S so my question is for a dumb non-technical kinda guy is this thing easy to use and figure out? Any tips etc would be appreciated thanks

Barry

I had that one on my Scout. Great unit with great data and I find it is MUCH more user friendly that the Lowrance that’s on my new boat.

After you learn the few screens, you’ll be flying through it with no problem at all. I had mine hooked to my VHF so it transmitted my position to other radios that have that feature. Not all radios do this…

That’s all that I can really share. It’s a great, simple unit and I’m sure you’ll love it!

I’ve had a few Garmins of different levels. You should have no problem. Garmin is a good GPS, simple-to-operate product (IMO). I’ve always liked them and the Bluechart.

Where do you plan to use the unit. The 440 is preloaded with coastal maps so if you want
to use it inland you will need additional blue charts. If you are going to use it inland, maybe
you could swap it with the dealer for a 430 which is preloaded with the inland maps. Either way
it is a great unit and very intuitive.

I’ve got the 440S and have been very pleased. Easy to use for sure. I always go with Garmin.

I think it may be the 440 then, again I took it straight to the boat guy to install. It has the coastal maps pre-loaded, I gopt a 17 ft flats boat that i got cuz i flyfish down there, p here in the mts I do a lot more booze cruisin some flyfishing in flats early spring for pre-spawn bass.

If it swims throw a fly at it!
