Flounder size and catch limits changing July 1st…
Good to know. Thanks for the info.
Karma is 360 degrees
Some got to win, some got to lose…
I’m good with this…since I’ve only accidentally caught 2-3 flounder anyway. Shoot, I’d be ok with a longer length - instead of feeding one person with one fish…feed 2 people with one bigger fish…

I don’t mind it at all…but tough to beat a personal sized fried whole flounder…
It doesn’t help that we have jackasses chartering gigging trips these days.

Seems to me, you mentioned something like this coming along previously…
Need some investment advice while you’re at it…

Well, taking the boat limit down to 20 is a good thing to help with that.

Its nice to see a regulation being proactive and not waiting until the damage is done and flounder are added to the “endangered” list as well
If I’m posting, its because I’m sitting here at work, dreaming about fishing.

I agree with this completely. I don’t see the point in catching or gigging 20 flounder anyways. Seems like a waste.

It was only a matter of time really. I don’t have any problem with the recreational guy going and sticking 10-15 flounder in a night. a few times a year. The fact that we have guys specifically chartering and killing 20-30 flounder consistently night after night, that hurts the population dramatically. But again, these guys that are chartering are young and ignorant to what they are doing to the population. Its unfortunate. Its why I only gig maybe once a year now, if that.
It’s a double edged sword. On one hand, if the limits allow for it, why can’t you take the allowable limit? On the other hand, who needs 20-30 flounder every trip out? I know increased regulations aren’t very popular but if people can’t show sound stewardship and restraint, what other options are there?
Personally, I have no problem with the increased minimum length and the reduced creel limit. Wouldn’t have had a problem with an even smaller creel limit.

To you…
When I was growing up we went gigging…A LOT. But we did it because we were poor. We fed our family with flounder and spottail often…and friends and family got their share as well.
Today, for sport, I agree. If I was hungry like we were back then, I would stick a limit every chance I got.

Is there a gigging charter out of Bushy Park? Last year flounder numbers were good, this year is almost zero. Just cant seem to find them. Even the smalls are few and far between.
I’ll tell you guy’s, my buddies up north can’t understand our liberal catch limits down here…I have to pull their jaws off the floor when I bring up deer limits in S. Carolina; that’s a whole other thing.
IMO, all of the limits should be halved tomorrow…I’d even love to see the top end of the Black and Red Drum’s reduced so more breeders stay in the water.
I’ll try not to twist my ankle as I step off this soapbox…having all that said, I logged in today to see if there were any gigging posts. 3 buddies and I are headed out tonight and (**()ed if I’m not keeping my boat limit if we can prick-um. hehe

So you think all limits should be halved but you curse about how you are keeping “your” limit. Typical of so many that like to talk about conservation but don’t want to practice it, even if it is not the law.
How about BSB, ARS, Grouper, among a few. I guess since you said ALL you think those need to be halved too?
Top end of Reds being halved? What does that mean you want to reduce the slot range or the 3 fish we can keep?
If it wasn’t for the new arrival of coyotes I’d be scared just how overpopulated deer would be right now. More need to be eaten rather than the amount of crops being consumed as we type. Want to watch a Northerner’s Jaw drop, tell them how we still use dogs to hunt for them with great success along with the occasional pissed of adjacent land owner from those that don’t do it right.
