New gear

I have three straight weeks off come this thursday, and will be doing some fishing. i really would like to do it right. At the moment I have enough setups to get me by. How ever I was think about selling that stuff and starting from scratch. AI have a combo of different stuff from stratics to quatums st. croix to star. I was wondering if you could do it and have the boat outfitted what would you choose for gear. I just got a 2002 actioncraft and am green to this kind of fishing. Should i have two setups for bait two for artificial, spinning conventional… any advice would be appreciated.

Too Busy has an article on 3 rod prospecting that you might find helpful

i go overboard, but the other day when my buddy and i went we had 7 rods a piece most rigged differently. I had rods rigged w a cork for driftin live baits (spinning) top water rod ( m act bait cast). carolina rig for live bait (MH spinning),a MH baitcaster w a spinnerbait, m-mh spinning rod w a jig, ml-m one w a trout rick, and a rod or two for large fish (sharks/tarpon).i use the same type combos you just mentioned. Stradic 2500-4000 quantum energy of same size. i use abu 5500c3s/6500c3 baitcasters for big reds. they are tough and easy to repair. . if you buy one get an older one off ebay. i dont like the new ones as much. low profile baitcasters for topwater. as far as rods go i like 6’6 to 7 ft for most things. if you decide to sell any stuff let me know i may be interested.

To me a good setup is 4 spinners and 2 baitcasters for a boat.

2 spinners for bottom, 2 for popping corks, 1 baitcaster for topwater, and 1 for a jig.

What brand you pick is up to you. I have like the Penn Fierce combos for spinners, but for baitcasters don’t go cheap. Stick with Calcuttas or nothing less than a pair of Abu’s.

I like the Calico Jack spinning rods from Dick’s, and also like the Gloomis GL2 and GLX, but I don’t like the price.

if you are buying high end rods check out my buddy robs rods. they are wonderful, made in the usa, and if something happens to one you can call him directly and he will handle the issue himself. i have a few and love them. the grip is awesome! Oh, and he just moved to chucktown so he would probably bring it to you if you are close and you would be supporting a local business as well.
