New guy moving from OOS

Good morning all. I am in the process of moving from South Louisiana to the Rock Hill area. I believe Charleston is the closest salt from where we will be living. I have a 22’ Contender and just wondering how the near shore and reef fishing is. It seems as though I will be pretty limited with how far the blue water is:frowning_face:

Also, do you guys have any recommendations for a captain that will take the helm of my boat and show me the area for a couple of trips?

Looking forward to being an active member here and see you on the water.

Really crowded.

Welcome to SC. 22’ contender? What year? I’m not giving you ****. I have a 23 open and I know they made a 21 as well. I’ve never heard of a 22 but I dont keep up with the newer models bc they are way out of my price range.

Thanks! It’s a 2015 22 sport. Forward seating and stuff for the wife and kids…

I’ve fished the blue water a bunch of times in a 20’ boat. As far as fishing spots go, buy a maps unique and that should get you started on checking out some spots.

I would definitely make the run by myself, but would probably stick nearshore with the wife and kids. Thanks, I will check at Maps Unique.

Welcome to CF TXClark ; You’re right about Charleston being the closest salt , but it’s a easy haul to several top spots , just depends on what you’re after…Georgetown to the N , all the way to Beaufort to the south, all have great fishing and facilities/access…
I trailer down quite often from Ft Mill to all of the above including
Southport in NC…Going down to Southport next week!!!
Again welcome:sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses:

Thanks George, we’re visiting Ft. Mill in a couple of weeks to start looking for houses. We’re excited to see what all the Carolina’s have to offer.

I hate to say this but I think you are going to be highly disappointed in our fishery if you are coming from south Louisiana.

I figured as much…but still excited to see some new water.

Welcome. Great time of year to be in town to learn the ropes. Fishing should be great the next couple of months. I’m sure someone will show you around the ol dolphin fishing grounds over the next couple of months if interested

“mr keys”

If they are still around in June, I would definitely be interested. Thanks for the welcome!

Hi TXClark! Welcome to the wonderful state of SC! After spending 10 years in TX (Dallas area), I must admit the fishery there is far better, at least freshwater side. However, we are here and the fishing is good and sometimes great, don’t let ‘em fool ya! LOL! I’ve been back in Carolina (Columbia/Blythewood) and my buddy and I are getting back into the saltwater action this year! He is BRAND NEW to the salt and has acquired a 19’ Maycraft. We would love to buddy-boat up with you and travel as a pair to some nearshore reef action to start with. Later on maybe venture a bit farther to maybe some weed lines. Would you be interested in pairing up and if so how soon would you be interested in making a trip? Gonna be a couple weeks before we’re geared up and ready!! Looking very much forward to hearing from ya!

Also, meant to say in last post … anyone else reading that might be interested in buddy boating up out of Charleston to some nearshore reefs, please don’t hesitate to reply. Thanks!
