I am new as well but from the first 4 outings I have had I have found out a few important details.

-Bug spray, you can’t easily out paddle them when they are hungry
-get an anchor or some type of steak out pole
-organize, make sure everything is within reach on your kayak
-small tackle holders, I find it much easier to take a few of the plastic tackle organizers than the whole bag.
-I put a cooler where most people put a 5 gallon buck or milk crate.
-4’ cast net
-flip flops lead to cut toes on oyster beds if you get out to throw the cast net or walk around.
-home made kayak cart. I’ll shoot some pictures and parts list if you want.
-life jacket on from the time you leave the car until you get back to your car
-paddeling against the tide isn’t that bad if the wind isn’t against you.
-sunscreen, unless you want the top of your legs burnt
-some of my best fishing has been within site of my launch site. Apparantly the train of thought is, if you have a motor you have to use it to go far.

This list grows everytime I go out. Let me know if I can help.

Helpful post, Ivy. Have you posted pics of your cart?

Many go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.
