New Guy

Finally got moved to Charleston and put my boat up today at Dolphin Cove. Wondering if someone would be willing to show me around by water to get he lay of the water— so to speak. Willing to compensate a fair wage. I am available weekdays or weekends with my schedule. Of course I plan to hire a local guide to jump start the fishing but want to learn the area before I do. I have a 2016 24 foot sportsman bayboat in case anyone is worried about a clunker, as I would be. If anyone is interested you can reply here, pm me or email at russcue1@yahoo.com. Character references available!!!

Welcome to Charleston… sorry cant help with the area you want to scout but I am sure somebody will step up!!

Take the class at Haddrells, best place to start. Mostly just put in the time, pick a couple of spots and keep fishing them until you learn the baits, rigs, tide, moon, temp, season, times of day…

It took me a year to learn how to catch sheeps. Now they packed up and moved offshore so i need to start over again…

Are you looking for fishing advice, or waterway advice?

Thanks for the replies. I’ll get to the fishing and dial it in. Right now I’m just trying to learn navigating around the areas. My boat obviously.

If you don’t have a friend already knowledgeable or someone here doesn’t come forward, I know a few guides who would happily do this for hire. I was lucky to have a knowledgeable friend to help me get started. You’re doing it right, as this will help your learning curve immensely by getting advise from someone who is knowledgeable. I would be hesitant to just accept anyone’s advice. Some people don’t know $^&*.

Your #1 concern should be SAFETY for yourself and others

If I retire again anytime soon, I would be more than happy to show you around. Charleston area has a lot of water to explore. No compensation needed. Any day on the water is great.
More familiar with Cooper river, harbor, Wando river and ICW behind Sullivan’s Island and Isle of Palms up to Bull’s bay as well as Jettie’s and off-shore. PM me and I’ll give you my number

Fair points about local knowledge and safety, that’s exactly why I’m trying to learn the Area the right way. I’ve helped out quite a few folks over the years and they were always very appreciative, as I will be. . Went to Haddrells today, nice place. They gave me a few brochures for some guides to hire and I will once I learn the area a bit. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Go fish with a guide. Target trout and sheepshead because they are the easiest to find and make a great day out anywhere on the water in CHS. One thing for sure, you need to figure out how to be fishing live baits. A guide is your best bet and worth every minute. Contact Holy City Charters, John Fuss will do you right. I do inshore charters and will meet you where ever you want to go but I don’t specifically do “fishing” charters. Contact me for details.
