I am in the process of putting new treble hooks on some of my hard baits. It occurred to me, that I may be putting some on backwards.
How do yall put them on? 2 barbs forward and 1 to the rear? Or 1 barb forward and 2 to the rear? And do you do the same for each hook if you have more that one on the bait?
By the way, the hooks and split shots that Strike King uses, suck. I broke the barbs off of 2 KVDs this week.
Back in my Largemouth huntin’ days, I would amost always put bigger hooks on my crankbaits. Front hook, 2 barbs foward, rear hook 2 barbs back. I found they don’t catch each other as often.
As the new guy and #TheWorstFishermanInTheWorld, I have so many questions.
How often do you switch out your treble hooks?
How do you split apart the really small split rings? Do you have super-dextrous children do it because of their smaller fingers? Little people? Chinamen?
Shouldn't folks have two hanging in the front at all times anyway?
What IS a hard bait, anyway?
Do baits get harder during mating season?
What if the water temp is cold?
Is a crankbait a hard bait that's already been cranked (twitched?), ifyouknowwhatImean?
If your hard bait is still hard after four hours, do you call a doctor? A veterinarian?
The red colored hooks are made mostly to catch fishermen. The color red fades to a grayish bland shade underwater at relatively shallow depths and even more so in less than clear water
On many of my offshore hard baits I use a single J hook, attached with a spro swivel. Some of the worst fishing injuries I have seen have involved treble hooks. I prefer a single sharp hook on the lures tail.
