Just bought 62 acres in NC with 1/4 mile of river frontage. I bought it for a summer home and to start a little winery for fun. The previous owner did not hunt and when I asked him if there were many deer on property he said there were a few. He also said that black tongue disease wiped them out about 6 years ago. My son and I walked the property yesterday and we saw scrapes, rubs, trails, etc everywhere. We have persimmon trees, grapes, pear trees, and oaks all over the place. The deer paths are so worn down that even I can see them:smiley: This is a whitetail paradise. Putting out cameras today.
What I love the most is all the draws by the stream with the hardwoods.
I’ll keep you posted when I get my first deer there.
Send me your new neighbors contact info and I’ll warn them about you!
Your comment is why I love you ED:smiley:
I think it will be hard for me to NOT see deer here. Just found walnut trees.

You’re making it extremely hard to not be a smartass!
I have a hard time believing you will find a place with more deer than where you currently hunt in orangeburg county. And …
It isn’t the amount of deer as much as it is the terrain. Sitting in a shooting lane next to a swamp gives you only seconds to enjoy the experience. The hollows on this property have hardwoods that are just sparse enough hat you will be able to see a deer coming from a long way. Also, this property has not been hunted in 10 years. Add to that the walnut rees, the persimmon trees, the pear trees, the oaks, and the wild grapes make this a dream location.

Sounds beautiful.dont imagine the deer will be utilizing the walnuts.
Hey Partner, how are the Walnuts? I’ve tried a few times and never had any luck with them. Do yours produce edible nuts? I’d take a Walnut over a pecan any day… Unless you are talking about a pecan pie.
I’m thinking I didn’t water enough as a young tree and I’ve lost every one i’ve ever planted… Hate to admit it, but I’ve done good with most everything I’ve planted but not a Walnut. I’m in Colleton county not far from Sniders Cross roads… 63 & 21.
Anyone else chime in!
and yes we are all happy for you and your new property! Good luck with it.

The walnut trees are wild. I ate one and it was ok. They tell me that the river has smallmouth bass in it.

I am trying to post link to the 1 and a half minute video on the property.

Everybody wants to stay in the tiny house. It has a real fireplace. The old tobacco barn is next to it. Once I get settled in you are welcome to come for a visit.
