This morning I went to one of my James island spots for reds and low and behold the trout were there. 3 trout: 1 15, 1 17, and 1 really fat 18. I also bought a wilderness systems tsunami due to the recommendation of Nikon Jedi. I am going to go out into yellow house tomorrow. Never navigated any of these waters but hopefully all goes well. I am contemplating heading out tomorrow sometime. If anyone is interested in going for some fish let me know.
Be careful out there. The water is chilly, so remember the yakkers motto: Rig to flip, dress to swim

Will do. Thanks for the tip. What do you mean “rig to flip?”
tie down or secure anything that you don’t want to lose. Most kayakers consider flipping the yak not an “if” but a “when” event.

Great! lol… so what kind of things force these flipping events
boat wakes, reaching too far to land a fish, excessive consumption of adult beverages the day before.
Here’s a link to an article I did last month for Coastal Angler Magazine on gearing up for cold. THe new edition is out, so the article is posted on a few kayak fishing forums and the Wilderness Systems site.

Busy, got a question. This is the first winter that I’ll be fishing from my kayak so speaking of “dress to swim”, does that mean don’t wear chest waders? What do you wear to stay dry launching your kayak and still be able to swim if you have to?

I wear neoprene chest waders. Good part about neoprenes is you bob like a cork making it a little easier to get back in the yak.
Bad news about neoprenes is if they don’t fit well. They can fill with water and make getting back in your yak harder. So, if they aren’t snug on you, cinch them up tight around your waist with a belt.

Too busy. I am afraid to mount 2 scotty rod holders to my sit in kayak. Any recommendations to avoid sinking my kayak.
you can put a scotty base on the ■■■■■■■■ of the tsunami. Mount if far enough forward to be out of the way, but still close enough to be in reach. Once you’ve got the base on you can use a single or mount a scotty triple.
I’ll try to pull some older pics of sit ins all tricked out.

haha thank i appreciate it. I was thinking about having two directly behind me but i’m still throwing ideas around. I have 2 dry storage compartments that i have been thinking about utilizing. and i see i have two screw holes in the back for a stabilization tiller? im not sure what its for. Like a back fin? i can’t remember what they are called
the screws holes on the back are for a rudder mount, just figured that out. Is it worth it to get a rudder? is turning really that much better?
You can pit a rudder on it but it’s not really needed. After market rudder can get pricey. It’s less that 15ft so it’s easy to turn wiht out it. They are nice if you are drifting a bank but you can get a hand paddle or keep your paddle in your lap and adjust your drift easy…

Here are a few pics I was able to dig out of Sit Ins
Pretty basic setup. I clipped biners to the bow and stern handles to add an anchor trolley, strapped my milk crate to the back deck and dropped a rod in each flush mount.
Same thing on this Dagger Edisto with one exception. I put the flush mount up front on this one. Not the best idea, made getting in and out a little tough.

Now are the flush mount holders the way to go over the scottys? or is it a horse a piece?
just personal preference. I like flush mounts behind the seat.
