New Lower Unit

I am about to redo the Johnson 150 that came on my Sea Fox. I just found a company out of florida that build lower units and they offer a 3 year no fault warranty. The price of the lower unit is 795.00. Has anyone had any dealings with Sterndrive engineering? the website is www.shopsei.net. any ■■■■■■■■ would be nice since I know this is a smoking deal and almost to good to be true.

From reds to marlin you got it.

Don’t you work at a stealership? Seems like you would have an inside line on a “hook up” right?

He may have an inside deal, but $795 for a reman lower unit with a warranty is pretty spiffy.

I don’t work at a stealership. i work at a dealership. Claim is right though about it being a sweet deal. My hook up price would be around 1700 and a one year warranty. I was hoping Chris V woul dhave some insight in on this company or anyone else. This is the company progressive uses when replacing a lower unit for insurance reasons.

For that price and a warranty, I don’t see how you could go wrong unless…

they are the same folks who tear down and rebuild outdrives and lower units for training and then sell them after they’ve been stripped down more times than a Remount Rd. hooker.

naw these are built to order generic lower units. It just sounds to good to be true and makes me wonder. Its like walking onto a car lot and finding a mercedes for $10,000.

They are knock off units, parts are sourced from China. They have been around for awhile and had built a business on low price and marketed warranty.

Are they as good as OEM, I doubt it. Component likes gears and bearing are probably a little lower quality and the base metal probably isn’t a corrosion resitant You have to make the decision on whether to go OEM on a quality part or go to an assumed lower quality part that has a good warranty to 3 years, but may or may not hold up in the long run.

Make sure you read their warranty closely as well. I glanced over it and it had an awful lot of limitations and conditions. Thing like the maximum liability of SEI is the purchase price of the product. $795 is not a lot in the boating world if something goes wrong. You are also responsible for all freight charges to and from their facility…

I think “spareparts” from here has gotten stuff from them
