New net, 5 redfish and a sore thumb.

Stoped by WM and picked up a new net that I broke last week. Headed out of shem creek at the crack of 10:45 with two buddy’s. Netted up some mullet pretty quickly, was supprised by an almost keeper sheepshead in the cast net. Headed out to dynamite hole. Caught a few reds and watched a film crew in the boat next to us. Wasn’t excactly were I wanted to be but the guys where we wanted to be were wearing them out, said the biggest was 41 inches. Headed to a super secret spot in the harbor when the tide changed and anchored up next to the other 15 boats. Ended the day with 5 red 2 tagged biggest 38 in. 1 bit the you know what out of my thumb. Didn’t think they would do that, was like beating my thumb with a meat cleaver! Missed just as many fish and of course the usual sharks and rays, good day on the water.

So what have we learned? Sounds like a good day, sore thumb notwithstanding.

I learned that when they redfish are biting they will bite anything. Including your thumb. Also a maybe a new bait I have not explored yet.

Yes but where will you get a supply of thumbs?

TTKarl,

That was my son and I with the 41 inch but we only got two reds and a nice trout and a few black fish. There was only one charter there when we arrived and I was too courteous and set up east of them. Another charter arrived and anchored right next to them with in ten yards.
The first charter caught at least 10 before the second arrived who started pulling them in also. The fancy Everglades “film” charter came
and we watched them catch a few also. We were pissed as we watched for more tan two hours with out a bite. The first charter left and we moved up closer to them when we got ours.

tallyho,

Good looking fish. I was holding the fish the exact same way when he thought my thumb tasted good! Looked like you guys anchored up across the harbor with us. You guys do any good over there?

My wife is dying to catch a bull red. To date her biggest red is 31.5". What size rod and reel do you use, and how do you rig the mullett? Thanks for the help!

take her out to dynamite hole, anchor inside on a outgoing tide throw out with a pyramid weight with whole finger mullet hooked through the mouth and wait. I catch on with my revo sx on med heavy veritas rod, with 20lb braid, 5o lb leader but i am switching to heavier braid, go 50lb braid and your golden
