New Ocean Kayak & Trailer

Got my new OceanKayak Torque rigged and found an old rusty jet ski trailer, cleaned it us, painted it, added new bunk carpet, roller and guide posts, and converted it to a kayak trailer. Now all I need is an over the slot redfish tomorrow to crissen it properly…

That is a cool setup you have there. I watched a guy pull in a red at the mouth of Shem Creek yesterday. Catching fish from a yak must be a pretty cool experience.

It is with some interest I study your fishing kayak, in particular the position of the trolling motor. From the description on Ocean Kayaks web page it appears the motor is in a stationary position. Have you seen Natives powered model where the motor is between the legs and has the ability to be steered in a traditional manner as well as being tilted. This appears to me to be a little better feature as I know youll get hung on something where you cant get off without raising your motor. Down side is I would think you would have less directional control with the thrust in the approximate middle of the boat. I would think a jet drive would be better than either of these methods, do you know if any manufacturer puts one of those in their boat?

As you said not a kayak but a rotomolded jet boat, not intended to be paddled but driven. What I envision is a small battery powered jet drive just sufficient in power to assist movement but with no undercarriage on which to run aground. You could run it with a rheostat, steer with your feet, freeing up your hands while fishing. Down side is you would not have a reverse but backing up isnt a problem most of the time. Just an idea.
