Wish I would have read these posts before I bought my son a Remington 770 model with factory scope from gander mountain. First time shooting it the scope broke on third shot. Took back to gander mountain next day and they replaced scope no id no questions asked? Went out to range today and couldn’t get scope to zero in a 25 yards, bolt action so wobbly and stiff. Trigger super stiff . Went back to gander and second salesman said there are problems with 770 model and scopes not very good? They told me they can buy it back at 60% value? Gun is three days old!! Told them not acceptable and they want me to come back and talk to gun manager. What a mess… Just trying to get a good gun for my son to shoot his first deer.

The 770 is a throw away gun. You’d have done better throwing the money you spent on it at deer. Hopefully they’ll refund the money in full. If not, take the 60% and run. If you try to sell it, you’ll be very lucky to recoup 50% anyway unless you luck up on someone gullible enough. Marlin, Savage, Mossberg and a few others make decent starter rifles but none of them are what I’d consider quality.
