New rod advice

My next premium rod will be a TFO. I like my G Loomis, but can’t afford to spend $250+ anymore.

For a cheap Ugly Stik replacement, I buy the Hurricane Calico Jack rods from Dicks. Very light rod, with IM7 blank and Fuji guides. Only $60, and works GREAT! If you want a warranty, you can get the same rod but called a Redbone. It is the same rod only has a lifetime warranty. However you have to pay $30 I think to get a replacement. I decided to just save the money and replace them when they break with new.

Just curious to know if anyone has tried the Legion inshore rods from PENN. Just would like to know what you think of the rod. Thanks!

For whatever it is worth, I have actually pulled in a small anchor with 4’ of chain with my All Star rod. It is 7’ casting rod, medium heavy action, and will pull up a post. This has been the best rod I’ve ever owned and was less than $100 from Dick’s. I like the Quantum and Penn rods though, and those have served me well over many years. The All Star is just my favorite. With 50# braid it is hard to beat for big redfish. I will definitely get a few more of these when I can afford to. It is as good as many of the $300 rods out there and is beautifully finished.

Go see Scott at Haddrells and spend some time with him talking rods.At one time or other I have broken rods.It happens.I have several St Croix and never lift a fish into the boat with them. For reds just get a good stout rod.For trout get a St Croix 6.6.
