Just broke my shimano clarus in half after hooking a mangrove tree down in FL on vacation. Was trying to free the lure and it snapped.
I now find myself in the market for another rod. Any recommendations on a decent 7 ft. inshore rod under $150? I usually use a 3000 or 4000 series reel and have been pretty loyal to shimano products but looking to try something different. Thanks in advance.
I have 2 of these combos and I love them. Star stellar lite and battle 4000’s. I have landed some pretty heavy stuff and did not break one yet. They are very sensitive. I can feel the vibration from a mud minnow screaming right before a red tears him up
Take that broken Clarus to Haddrell’s Point West Ashley. I’m a big fan of the Trevalas and if I’m going to get another inshore rod, I’ll be looking at the 7 footers.
I second what madfire said, I’ve got a TFO “Gary’s Tactical” (Gary Loomis, creator of G. Loomis) Series Rods ($150) and I am in love with that thing, plus they have a lifetime warranty, $40 deductible if you break it, free if a fish breaks it. They also have a "Signature series that runs $100, different grip and guides, same blank and warranty.
Thanks for the advice yall. I’ll take a look at all of those. I forgot all about TFO. I always think of them as just making fly rods. I lost my proof of purchase a long time ago so I think I’m SOL as far as warranty goes.
I run the St. Croix Mojo Inshore with 4000 Battles. Love the set up. plenty of sensitivity, yet backbone to get out of the ruff when required. Don’t think you would be disappointed with that set up either. only dislike is the split grip is quite long; doesnt pose a problem though. just another proven option.
Check out Bryan Connley at connleyfishing.com, have a few if his rods and they are sweet! He will do custom anything and always has some deals going on. He is the former owner of chaos rods, I have some older chaos rods as well that have caught for many, many years. He makes an awesome rod.
I have a wiggins inshore flats blue I love, a abu veritas that i just snapped in half but they have a great warranty, replaced for 10 bucks, but the reason for the reply was if you want to drop less than 100 bones try out the berkley amp, 30 bucks at dicks. I know 30 bucks sounds like crap but lemme tell ya I had a red on for 15 min the size of my 94 quart cooler until he straigtened a 4’0 hook at the boat but the rod was med light, and didn’t break. I has a lot of action and bends to the water no problem. I was kinda iffy at first but its a good rod for the price. As far as temple fork, I have been told they are very good by a buddy who has one, kinda stiff though, even the lights.
