so I was thinking about getting a setup strictly for artificial’s. If I’m not mistaken a 3000 is the best sized reel for this purpose? I would use it for trout, reds and flounder. I already have a 4000ish sized reel that I like to use for bait and popping corks I just feel I need something lighter to throw light artificial’s (1/8 oz being the lightest and 1/2oz. usually being the most). I was thinking about the Penn Battle or maybe the Penn fierce. I also need help on getting a rod, what ratings of line and weight should I look for in this? I was also wondering if anybody’s heard anything good about the penn battle combo’s http://www.pennfishingstore.com/penn-battle-spinning-combos.html , they look pretty nice unlike the fierce combos which I hear break. I would really appreciate your input on what setup I should get, thanks in advance!
I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.
I just bought 2 battle 3000 combos Saturday night, $119.99. Spooled them with 10lb power pro and they cast great in the yard but haven’t had time to fish them yet. I was to busy putting my new depth finder on my boat (elite 7 hybrid dsi). Can’t wait to see how they work.
a bump for a quick question, Im getting the battle tonight, 3000 on a 7ft. 8-15lb. rod, this good for inshore species throwing the lure, popping cork, carolina rig? I was thinking about spooling it with 15lb. braid?

My Fierce 3000 is on an Inshore Select Lite 6’6" Uglystick. It cast great with 1/4 oz spinners and 1/2 oz Rat-l-traps. I like the Lite because it comes with cork grips. Ugly Stick SP 1170-MH 7’ spinning 6-17lb, 1/4-5/8oz lures, should do the trick Haddrell’s can get you one for around $40.00

I recently got a penn battle 2000 and a penn regiment 7’ rod for jigs from 1/16 to 1/4 and is a sweet set up with 10lb braid. Also have a couple of the penn legion 7’3" with 2000 battles on them are are very nice as well.
Penn Battle is a very good reel. I have 3 3000s and 1 8000. Great drag but they are a little heavy. Shimano reels in 2500 size also highly recommended.
Alright, I really appreciate the help! Do you think I should go for the 3000 with the 8-15lb. rod for my inshore purposes?

Yes, that combination should serve you well. My 3000-size Battle is spooled with 20 LB. Power Pro and paired with a St. Croix Mojo Inshore 7’ medium-light 8-15 LB. rod (so its specs are pretty-much the same as the rod(s) you’re considering). The combo is sensitive enough to feel the lightest bite and stout enough to horse bull reds out from under docks. Hope this helps.

I would go with a Penn Battle 2000. Lighter reel that will cast farther than the 3000 and will handle all species inshore, even bigger reds! $60 price point for a good rod will be hard, but I would be looking for 7’ to 7’6" ML fast to ex-fast with 1/8oz on the low end. I have had a few Battles and they are great reels!
Hurricane redbone rods? My .02 is that focus more on the rod and get some good braid as well. A battle 2000 or symetre (2500 what I would get) would go great on a star rid. The price point $200 one, or a shimano symetre. Spool it with 15# braid and let’s go fishing!!
