I’m thinking of getting one of these new rods from SAGE. Has anyone bought/tried them out? Are they worth the hype that I’ve read about them? I know they’re a little shorter at 7’11" but supposedly have a lot of power and finesse at the same time… price tag is around $350-$400 on them. Are they good in the wind or any limitations because of the shorter length?
It would be nice to have a shorter rod that can do the same job…
That’s the first time I’ve ever said that!

I have the Sage LM model and like it. I use it to cast large flies and poppers both offshore and inshore. Orginally picked it up for Jacks in the harbor (which is works well for), then started using it to cast large surface flies for Trout and Reds.
In the spring, it is great for targeting LM bass on the beds.
This is not a rod I would plan to blind cast with all day. However, during the summer, I always have it on the skiff and it always get used by my anglers.

i have a 6’9" “saltwater 6” that casts into the wind great. the shorter length forces a faster stroke and the loops get super tight and “punchy.” its not a everyday rod, but i havent really found any limitations to it in situations i use it. (it would be a terrible rod for fishing long casts/all day or nymphin rivers since line control and distance suffer) Either the sage or the redington would be great rods for local waters. there was an article too in a shallow water sp, about the benifits of shorter sticks. it seems they are gaining a lot of popularity with snook anglers why pry em from docks and mangroves
Well the update is that my wife surprised me the Largemouth SAGE for Christmas and it comes with its own 330 grain line that I’ve put on it now. I’ve thrown it one time but only for a few minutes because it was so cold out but I was really impressed with the power that it has and also it only need 1 or 2 false casts to get it out there for normal fishing conditions. I look forward to getting on the boat and really testing it out. The line that is designed for it really seems to make a difference on the performance of the rod itself.
I tried throwing my normal weight forward 8 weight line that I had on my reel and I could really tell the difference once I switched it to the line that comes with it.
I hope to post soon with my first fish on my new rod if this freezin weather ever gets outta here…
