has anyone ever sprayed the spring an shackles with epoxy paint.
wondering if it would make them last longer in salt water.
I spray all non stainless hardware on my trailers twice a year with lps #3. Hose off thoroughly every trip. 7 years no rust… Already rusted hardware on my used trailer I hit with ospho and then start the lps process. Hope this helps.

I have been using Yamaha fogging spray/oil on everything from springs to battery terminals and under the cowl for a few years now! Works as good as any of the salt inhibitors I’ve used in the past! Yamaha products are expensive, but they do the job!

Rub everything down with waterproof grease like you pack your hubs with. I have a 23 year old trailer for my jon boat replaced springs once. Want to save your battery, super glue a penny to top between terminals when it corrodes pop off glue in another.
Rule for me cover the block and components completely with 1 full can of lps #3 on each outboard (1/2 can for the little ones) every year. Great report. I am going to try some of the other products on my equipment (marine utilities). Check dillon supply for good lubricants and rust inhibitors.

One thing for sure, most anything is better than doing nothing.
I’ve used WD40 with some success but after the article I may try some of the other products. I did use a can of “Lubriplate Chain and Cable Lubricant” once when I didn’t have any WD40 around and it seemed to do pretty good on the trailer springs and winch cable.

CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion block and T-9 Boeshield are also good inhibitors! T-9 Boeshield is more expensive. CRC Heavy Duty Corrosion Block industrial grade is the least expensive inhibitor that I have used and it works well!

All these lubricant, sprays, corrosion inhibitors are polluting the water when you dunk the trailer in…
I am nowhere near any environmentalist or PETA meber, but think about it - we fish the water for god sake!
Use Rubber undercoating spray or Truck bed spray to prevent corrossion of trailer suspension components (when new or wire brush rust away is the secret) or SS bolts & Ny-lok nuts. Use Never Seize on lug nuts or bolts.
Chain & Cable Lubircant - come on…get the Dawn dishwashing liquid for the ducks

Carry that crap back to NJ. Since you’re moving to Gtown, go down to IP or the steel mill and look whats running in when it rains. What runs in with storm water is a lot worse than a little anti-corrosion spray on my trailer. The manufactering process for the undercoat you list isn’t anymore “green” that coating my springs with CRC, plus undercoat won’t get between the leafs like a liquid spray will. SS bolts and nylok nuts won’t protect the springs and shackles, which is the original posters concern. I hope you don’t see the thread on burnt motor oil for hog bait!
DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT!!!
The harder you work, the luckier you’ll get.

Sorry Eric G, but most anti seize has copper as its main “anti-seize” ingredient. steel hardware and saltwater are bad enough to promote galvanic corrosion, but adding dissimilar metals only makes thing much worse. We use good old OMC blue grease on almost everything, except bearings, then you need a high temp grease.

Really? How much pollution is this causing? 3 posts and you mention using anti-sieze after talking about pollution.
Justretired, never used epoxy paint, so can’t say. But I’ll say this, no matter what you do to springs immersed in salt water they will sooner or later corrode and need to be replaced. I personally believe the worst thing is the amount of time they sit before before getting rinsed off. Just know if you do a lot of salt water fishing and spend a lot of time on the water before getting your boat loaded and trailer rinsed off, the corrosion factor will be greater.
