New state record gag?

Heard rumor there was a 54 pound gag caught yesterday? Anybody know the story?

I DO.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Studly doesn’t even come close to describing that beast. Fish rocked Jim up immediately and after 5-10min or so of the boat changing angle to the deep side of the ledge it popped out and he was able to work the fish up. When color showed and I saw the head to determine it was a gag I nearly fell over. Fish was gaffed and the boat was in awe. A very impressive fish. Especially considering it was on a old USA 113h Senator. I will never see a gag like that again. Great trip with great dudes.

First drop after trolling, and he hooked that beast! Story I heard from a local on the dock!

Awesome haul.
Glad to see the rod & reel crowd scoring big.
Good on you having the patience and skill to out-wait it after being rocked-up.
Take that head to a Chink joint and trade them for some General Gao!

Had a head pickin bbq party. Nothing left to trade

Nothing wrong with an old USA built Special Senator either.

Long enuff- especially not after you slap a aftermarket gear sleeve and fresh greased CF washers in that thing! The rod was a old school daiwa beefstick. The solid glass kind I had haddrels put new guides on it a year and a half ago. Sweet old school diggin setup!

It has line on it now, just haven’t tried it out yet. Went from a stock three stack drag to a thin 5 stack. More drag than I can measure on a 30lb scale. Old school Penn 750SS double dogged and made between 1980 and 1990.
