New Tackle Shop, Maybe.....

If, and just bare with me when I say “if”, a new tackle shop were to come to town, what products would everybody like to see? Baits, rigs, reels, rods, etc. Anything that could separate a new store from everyone else? Just fishing for ideas. Thanks for playing along y’all.

This is already available, I stopped a crabber Saturday and got a dozen crabs from him and much cheaper than market price!

As you can tell…location is important. On the water would be great but probably not practical. A tackle/bait shop near a public boat landing would be ideal!!! I’m tired of having to run down to Chs Angler or Hadrell’s and then run back out to Limehouse!!!
location, location, location!!!

Goggle eyes on the water. Bet you guys don’t have that already!!!

You have to decide what you want to be. I’ve spent money with all the local shops in Charleston. Nothing to back this up but IMO Charleston Angler gets more tourist money due to their clothing sales and shopping center type locations. Haddrells and Atlantic Game and Tackle provide repair/replacement service that is well accepted by the hardcore fishermen and charter fleets. So what does this “what if” store want to be and to whom “might” they want to provide services to? Hard pressed to be all things to all people.

It would be great to have a tackle shop that opened before daylight to sale bait to those of us that like to start early. It would also be very helpful if it were located in an area that doesn’t take an act of congress to enter or exit. I know this is all what if’s, so with that said I’ll be happy with what I am given.

buy bait the night before if you’re getting out early. make sure you have adequate areation if so…not hard to do.

there is already a tackle shop in charleston that is well stocked on tackle, bait, information, and does one hell of a job taking care of the local and visiting folk.

Haddrells Point is hands down a true gem of a store.

So unless the shop was on the water, and our long standing shop was absoultley void of what was needed…they as well not even try to jump into game in this area at all.

Here’s my 10 cents, my 2 cents is free

I think Knot Stressed just hit the nail on the head. I have a VERY small boat/trailer and have to avoid some places just because there’s nowhere to park, and I live too far away to make a special trip to get something there.

To be quite honest with you, with the good places we already have, I think great parking is the best advantage you could get over a place like Haddrells if you have a good central location.

I like the parking at the Summerville Charleston Angler, I can park the boat, leave all the tackle/rods in it and see it from nearly every place in the store so I can be sure jo-bob doesn’t rob me blind while I’m in there getting minnows.

Some where close to limehouse. Any where else is a waste. I like haddrells west, but it is out of the way if going south.

Bait delivery on the water would be nice but not practical for most. A “to the marina/dock” delivery service is more feesible.

I know loyalty goes a long way in this business and the established local shops will definitely benefit from it. That said, give me a shop that has a better selection, better prices, and great customer service and I’ll over look a less than perfect location. Hell, give me a shop with a great selection and great customer service and I’ll over look a less than perfect location AND slightly higher prices.

I think a shop with a decent mix of freshwater and saltwater fishing gear (70% saltwater to 30% freshwater and as far as saltwater gear 60% inshore to 40% offshore) would be a welcome addition to the Charleston area. As consumers, competition is great for us. Between the two Charleston Angler T-shirt shops, Atlantic Game and Tackle (the most impressive aspect of this store is their spooling station, reel servicing, and archery department. I personally own more firearms than they had for sale.), and Hadrell’s, there’s only one legit tackle shop in Charleston…Hadrell’s. I for one would love to see another shop come to the area and mix it up with the “locals.”
