Just moved down here from Columbia. I used to fish in Lake Murray when I was a kid but that’s about it, so I am about as amateur as it gets when it comes to salt water fishing… My mom and dad live in Toler’s Cove in Mount Pleasant and the guys in the marina there told me the docks there are great spot to fish for reds/trout/flounder etc. My dad has some poles in his shed with some DOA shrimp and some other plastics, Zmans I think. Does these work well? Or would I be better off getting some live bait? Like I said earlier, I’m an extreme amateur so if you have any tips or suggestions at all I would love to hear them. Thanks!
Live and artificial baits both work, one may be better than the other on any given day. Sounds like the guys at the marina are steering you right.

Do you have a boat?

I use to fish there before I had a kayak. I would recommend gulp shrimp or Zman MinnowZ over there. While your working artificial , throw a rod out with a light Carolina rig and a mud minnow or finger mullet. There are some very big fish Over by the oyster beds on the side closer to the SI bridge and connecting road…I believe it’s the F dock. Go to the end of it and you will see to oyster mounds with a small “inlet” in between. Cast into there with the Carolina rig, let it sit, and work the artificial in the mean time. Caught some nice ones there
