I recently just to Mount Pleasant from West Virginia. I love to fish and recently purchased a kayak. Unfortunately, I feel completely uninformed about how to fish down here. Most of my experience is small and largemouth bass fishing in rivers, ponds, etc. All I have heard about down here is how good the fishing is for redfish, trout, and sheepshead. I am looking for some guidance on good places to fish, tackle, bait… basically everything, even times of the year and times of the day to go. I have heard that the upper wando was good and the grass flats. But, I do not really know where to put in or where to focus my fishing. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the lowcountry…we’re having our kayak fishing club meeting next Saturday (31st) at 6pm, at Palmetto State Armory in Mt. Pleasant. There will be a number of kayak anglers out there you can get info from.
Also, go back in these pages and browse - lots of good information to be had here in the kayak fishing section, spanning many years.
The search function will get you the most information. Lots of older post with good info on them. But some quick advise for this time of year is to just be patient. Fishing can be much harder in these cooler months, and warm weather is not far away. Fish under/around docks and any kind of structure. Ive had some decent luck using mud minnows the last few trips. If you don’t know already, figure out how to use a Carolina rig (not much to it). Good luck!
All fishermen are liers except me and you and I’m not sure about you.
