new to fishing the seas

Havent realy fished much salt water but am going to Charleston this weekend and going to give it a try. I have printed cord for nearshore reefs and will give it a try.
Anyone have any pointers?

SAT
NE WINDS 15 TO 20 KT. SEAS 4 TO 5 FT.

Haven’t really fished much salt water + 4 to 5 ft seas = bad idea buddy. You might want to stick to inshore if you really want to fish.

Yes, when you get a NE forecast, always at 5 knts on top of whatever they predict… This weekend is going to be an ugly one and you will be lucky if 5 foot seas is the worst.

get a hot spots map and find some mullet and/or shrimp and stick to the rivers. it gonna be nasty out there

“There is a strange sense of pleasure being beat to hell by a storm when you’re on a boat that is not going to sink.” JB

Listen to these guys. Those conditions turn seasoned vets around. The inshore fishing is hot right now. Go catch some big spottail.
Think I saw someone say NE Never Ever.

Hope for a change in weather by then!

“you win some, you lose some…but nothing beats getting some!”

Well, in that case I guess I will be fishing the rivers. Boat is a Maycraft so I am good there. I have had 30+ years on the water but not that much ocean only a couple years. and its a good thing to be scared. Thanks for the information. If you see the “Knot Working” that would be me. I will search for hot spot map and see you on the water.

If the seas are too rough to venture offshore during your stay then hit the jetties. Go fish dynamite hole or next to the rocks and catch some big bull reds. This is the time of year to get them.

Where can I find information/locations of dynamite hole and other local hot spots? Smokey suggested hot spot map?? Is this available in stores and if so can you recommend one. I always try to use all local that I can. I live in Charlotte area and will be staying in Goose Creek.

probably charleston angler or hadrells

Where will you be putting your boat in? That’s going to be the first way folks can recommend some good fishing options with offshore looking like it is.

I will be dropping in at Duncan Landing on the Ashley River. it seems to be a good place and there are a few creeks that feed in so I can catch bait. At least that is the plan. But I am always open for suggestions. I will look up charleston angler and hadrells thanks for the info.

looking up the landing… that would be county farm landing. lost already. this doesn’t look good. Well a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work.

15 to 20 winds is bad! Like Smokey said, stick to the rivers and creeks. Even the Stono is bad in those wind conditions.

From Goose Creek, your closest ramp would be Bushy Park on the cooper river. This is a tidal landing and usually has about 12" of water at low tide so plan accordingly. Stay in the middle (there is no channel, is shallow and shallower). Idle trimmed up until your in the river and 30ft deep.

Duncans Stop & Shop on Redbank road has live/frozen bait and a pretty good selection. Also has non-e gas. This will be your closest supply store and they have pretty good hours.

My boat drafts 15" (20ft CC Deep-V), and I use the pilings to the right of the right landing as an indicator. If the water is touching the poles, I can go, if I can see mud at the base of the poles it’s a no go. Either wait for the tide to come in or go across the road and put in on the fresh water side and drive around to salt. Takes about 45 min.

Or, you could just drive down to remleys landing (on of the busiest landings) in Mt. Pleasant. Much closer to the Harbor and if the weathers bad probably wont be too crazy.

Charleston Harbor over the week end was very windy but thanks to all the help and information about the fishing it was a great week end of fishing. We caught lots of everything Saturday and Sunday was just to windy so it was sightseeing and fishing in between. The group with me had a great time. Thanks again ever one.
