new to fly fishing

I got an albright 8/9 wt fly rod with a 9/10 reel as a present. I have 9wt coldwater fly line on it, and I seem to throw it pretty good when I am just throwing it in the yard. I took it out in December and i just wasnt able to throw it more than about 20 ft. So my question is does the saltwater getting on the line make it more difficult to throw it or what? Also, if there is any other tips or tricks yall could give me as far as fly fishing goes, since I am pretty new to it, that would be great.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>You definitely need to rinse all the salt of the line after each use. I wipe my line down with some simple silicone to help keep the salt off and it makes the line slick and helps floating line to float. Do a search on the web for your line and see what they recommend you put (if anything) on your line.

It’s not that I don’t rinse it after its used but that when I’m out there throwing it that it seems like i can get it out there very far

Can’t*

Use the Haul and Double Haul…

I can give you some casting lessons if you’d like … I am not a pro, but not a beginning either

but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

I take it u go to Clemson. U need to get a 4 or 5 wt and fish some of streams up there for trout.

Got one of those too I can throw that one fine but I’ve only caught two rainbows

Look me up when you get in town and I’ll be happy to help you out. I’m not any sort of pro, but I might be able to help smooth your cast out a little bit…
