New to fly fishing

I just recently started fly fishing here in charleston and was wondering if anyone had any helpful tips to get started. I know the best time to go is during a high tide but what about during the low tide" are there any good places to go’ I don’t have a boat.

I’ve never been fly fishing in salt water here but…

I’ve seen very few schmucks with fly rods around here and they all look like they are failing miserably. But I’ve seen them in the middle of the ICW and front beach Sullivan’s Island. Water is muddy here and the beaches are filled with possibly fly fishing victims and wind.

Find a good flat that gets reds on high tide. Look for tails and throw crabs/shrimp at them. The calmer it is the easier they will be to see. I don’t know if it’s legal or not but maybe on the causeways to IOP/Sullivans or jump in the marsh at Pitt Street Bridge. Gonna be pretty tough to find a place to fish without a boat… flyfishing isn’t exactly a people friendly sport and most public watering holes are filled with people.

If you luck out you might have some luck at the inlets between islands?

This is all you need to read out of Great White’s post…

There can be some very productive fly fishing opportunities in the lowcountry if you’re in the right place at the right time. The best thing to do is just keep an eye out whenever you’re riding around town and look on Google Earth to find interesting looking stuff that you can access. Once you’ve found something that looks like it might be worth a shot, go check it out. Go to the local tackle shops (Lowcountry Fly Shop, HPT in West Ashley, etc) and chat with the fellas in there and you’ll probably walk out excite about the sport and knowing a lot more than you did when you went in.

You’ll be hard pressed to get people to tell you about all their spots as they’ve generally spent a lot of time trying to find and figure them out for themselves.

First, you’ll need a buff

Hey sometime you gotta throw crap out there to keep a thread from disappearing.
