New to Flyfishing and the Winter

I will be in Charleston over Christmas and am looking to do my first Saltwater flyfishing. Does anyone have a good spot to tell me about? I will be staying in Mt. Pleasant.

Thanks!

Do you have access to a boat or kayak? Low tide is the best time to be on the water in the winter, but you’re gonna need somthing that floats. You may even look at renting a kayak if you are serious about getting into some fish.

Thanks. I will look into that. BTW… What weight rod is best? I have been looking at an 8wt at Bass Pro

8wt will work around here, be sure you get a sealed reel … It is essential or it won’t last you to long.

Also you can get a rental kayak from Time Out Sports … Dave will take care of ya

“be sure you get a sealed reel … It is essential or it won’t last you to long” is gospel advice… we had one come in the shop and it took me a Paul about 3 hours to get the spool off and get it cleaned up and working again. The reel survived but a sealed drag would have saved the owner a LOT of trouble. it does not have to be a super drag that will stop fish but enough to help slow him down and turn him.

Thanks! Can you send me a link to a good sealed reel? I am actually going to wait to buy something better than what Bass Pro had on sale.

the sage reels are all sealed and start at 139…solid and good lookin…

As I plan for my trip… Is there a place in freshwater or salt that I don’t need a boat to flyfish?
