new to kayaking

I was looking to get into kayak fishing and shooting some pictures and wanted some suggestions for a good kayak to do so… I am 6’1 175

Ask Too Busy. I have a 13 Perception Search and a 14 Native Manta Ray. I reach for the Manta Ray first, but both are really good. There are lots of great yaks around.

How far and where do you want to paddle?
not all kayaks are created equal and not all kayaks are suited for every situation. I spend most of my time inshore, do the occasional trip beyond the breakers - just not very often. A typical trip for me is about 5 miles of paddling. It seems I’m always going against wind, tide, or both to get to my favorite spots. So I take speed over stability. My favorite sit on top boats are the Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 an dTarpon 160 for cruising and the Ride 135 for standup fly fishing.

The East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival is coming up in April. Fnatastic opportunity to compare a lot of boats side by side and test paddle one after another.

Otherwise go talk to Dolphin Dave at Time Out in Mt P. He’ll hook you up.
