new to offshore fishing help

If you are budget wise I would opt for the old trusty penn 6/0.they can be rebuilt and it’s the same reel my father taught me to troll with in the 1960s. I just had several rebuilt with the new drag washers. There old but they are goodies. If you want to spend the bucks you can opt for the new penns they are smaller but run 400 to 800 a reel. But for the money I used the old 6/0. W e ha v e landed a many dolphin, king, wahoo and even a sailfish on these old reels. Just my two cents. The 320 gt have given me problems.

If LSK had invited me I would be on my way. There’s a ton of knowledge to be learned from the locals. Not to mention the friendships that come out of it.

Besides, you can fish from your boat another day.

I don’t want to be rich,
I just want 1 dollar more than I can spend!

Get a ride with someone with experience, then decide if you still want to do it on your own boat.

JK4, first you need to figure out what you want to do. If you want to troll then for what? If its bottom fish same thing for what. You don’t want to brake the bank on equipment you wont use or is over kill or not enough for the job. I would figure that out first and go from there. Good luck and be safe.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Pay for the gas and learn from LSK! It will be money well spent and I assume the tackle and bait will be included? Plus, she is easy on the eyes!!!

Tackle and bait included - unless you put a reel in free spool, then (depending on outcome) it may be an additional cost.

jk4! Do you have someone that you plan to fish with often? You know like a good friend that you fish with all the time? LSK will probably take him also? That way you can learn boat handleing and he can learn how to be 1st mate! Make him split the cost of the gas!

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him fish with a sexy captain…

Is it possible to go back to starting member status and ask for advice?[:I]

T-Mobile has great reception at the GTH. I may be a little bit south but plan on trolling north east, should be within cell phone range by noon.

Tight lines.

Lake how much does it take to run your boat for the day

fishmaster! How much it takes to run a boat offshore for a day is a really general question! If you are just meaning how much gas you might burn depends on what kind of fishing you are going to do. Bottom fishing, not as much as trolling, a little of both in between. There are many other costs involved also. Bait, tackle, ice, maintenance on the boat and motors and trailor, insurance, not to mention the initial cost of the boat. Plus all the labor to prepare and recover the boat for a trip. When you brake it down, gas, is cheap but still a major cost. If you can get an offshore trip and only pay for gas you made a great deal.

ladyshrimp- I’ll pay for the gas, bait, etc, and even let you drive my ride. Lord knows, you’re a lot nicer to look at than my usual crew… sorry Bonzo
