new to offshore fishing help

I’m new to offshore fishing I’m looking to make my first trip late July and i just wanted to see if anyone could offer and equipment advice. I’m from the upstate so here is not a good place to shop for tackle of salt. I have a 22 foot center console with Garmin electronics. I’ve been a few times off shore so i have learned alot but is a total new ball game than freshwater. Looking at a Penn 320gt2 reel but any help would be awesome.Thanks

Best bet is to make it into Haddrells Point tackle in West ashley and talk with Scott or Dee, both can definitly point you in the right direction and drastically reduce the learning curve for offshore. They won’t try to sell you everything in the store just point you in the right direction to get out there and get some fish.

What kind of fishing are you planning on doing and what part of the upsatate are you from? I’m in Rock Hill and have a ton of rods and reels. I don’t buy to sell just collect but I’m wanting a new Honda 4 stroke so if your looking for rods or reels send me a pm.

Best bet is to pay for my gas and I will show you how it is done.

Maybe he wants the satisfaction of cathing a fish out of his own boat?

Haddrells # 843.573.3474. They are great guys in there and Scott at the west Ashley location is my favorite guy to go on there and talk to bit the other guys are great, he’s on this site as reelhunter.

I’m a high class redneck.

Fishing is a delusion entirely surrounded by liars in pfgs and buffs.

You are right. If you are new to offshore fishing, you should go out 50 miles in your 22 ft boat with all the knowledge haddrells has to offer. That is a great idea.

Don’t forget to bring your cell phones just in case you need to call for help.

If LSK is willing to show you for the price of gas, do it. Check her posts, she does more than talk fishing

How much is your gas?

thanks for the offer LSK, but I do want to fish my own boat and im not some idiot that would go out 50 miles in a 22 foot boat with no phone. yakman72 thanks for the info ill have to give them a call.

jk4cutigers. ummm not trying to be a smart alec but you do know LSK was joking right. you need to be a member of sea tow have a (**() good radio and a epirb. cell phones are useless. turn them off. no cell phone towers on the deep blue lol

to many pros on this thread

Jk,go with the TLD’s and get good rods or you will regret it later, 30# class will catch any thing out there and carry 2 of everything,I’m in the Upstate also and I’m going Tues if the weather holds;

As other people have said. Go see Scott at Haddrell’s. Look at the Penn Squall 50’s on Billfisher Rods. Just bought 4 new set ups and love them. Make sure you carry a hand held floatable radio. It’s your only life line if things go wrong.
