new to shrimping!

hello all! really enjoying reading all that has been posted. went out on a friend’s john boat the other day to try baiting with poles for the first time - no such luck. Was at the flat to the right after leaving Shem Creek. I dont think we did anything wrong, but maybe they just weren’t there.

I can deduce from reading the many posts that divulging secret spots isnt common, but what are the common areas where newbies might be able to get their first taste?

Also, I caught some from a dock in Shem Creek and off the shore at Breach Inlet. Is there any other place that people might suggest for those who dont always have access to a boat? I would like to just go catch some off docks or shores around the area but dont really know where i might be able to!

Thanks in advance for any tips, I’m really excited to continue trying to find the little suckers!

When I’m launching my boat, I often see people throwing nets off of the floating docks on either side of the ramp. It annoys some boaters because they are in the way, but if you’re smart enough to not interfere with the boaters, that might be one place for you to go. There are also some piers you can go to, like the one near Cosgrove up the Ashley River. My last suggestion, (and the best) is to have a friend that lives on the water and they have a dock. Call them up…take over a cooler of their (or your) favorite legal beverage, set on the pier, drink a few, have a great time, and catch a few shrimp. Sounds like a good evening to me. Good luck.
