I am new to the area and also Striper fishing and was wondering what the best technique is now. I had really good luck my first 3 times out drifting/trolling live bait on the top and caught 12 w/ 2 keepers the first time and 7 w/ 1 keeper the second time. However, the lat 3 times out I din’t even get a bite, nor did see any birds or topwater action at all. Is it best to head close to the dam and troll deeper now, or anchor up on points and fish cut on the bottom.
Many thanks,

Welcome to the area and way to go getting your young man involved, what a great photo. I wish that I had seen your post earlier as we had a great meeting tonight with a great presentation on techniques for fishing Clark Hill Lake. You are certainly invited to our next meeting at the Flight Deck in Lexington on June 12th at 7PM. I would concentrate on mid-lake points pulling or drifting freelines early and switching to cut when the sun gets high. Check us out at: http://www.midlandsstriperclub.org .
Now that the birds are gone it is best to use your electronics to locate the fish. Concentrate on the mouths of midlake creeks and points. Sometimes I drive for an hour or more searching before I drop a line. A good fish finder is a must. A gps with a good map loaded is a really good tool too. Don’t use the fish symbol mode. The fish finder will tell you much more without it. Below is an image of a school of striper feeding on a bait ball for an example.
The midlands stripe club website has some good information on it. Especially the tips and techniques part. www.midlandsstriperclub.org Another good tip is to fish in or during one of the striper clubs tournaments with some binoculars and see what the other boats are doing.

Thanks for the tips. I have a new Garmin sounder with gps map of the lake. It really helps to use the map to find the humps and points. However I have been using the fish symbols because my son wanted them on. I will switch back and see if I can troll around and see more. What frequency is the best to use when scouting these 15’-40’ waters?
Thanks,
Jeremy
