Hey all,
Just heard the new boat should be ready by mid April. We’re from NY and have just 1 Charleston fishing experience under the belt. We booked a charter last fall, and fished minnows under poppers, which was more fun than it sounded. Seems like that’s a popular method.
We plan on fishing in and around the Wando for Reds, Trout and Flounder. What are some must-haves on your boat? From rods and reels to terminal tackle. I’ve a ton of time fishing for Stripers up north, and love to fish live bait, but I’m no stranger to plastics. I feel like most of my tackle is on the heavy side for here.
I was hoping for some suggestions, but not all your secrets.
There’re a few really good local tackle shops that have seminars, that will prob be your best bet for the type of tackle and rods to use. Check them out. Sounds like you’re on the right track. That 24 bay boat will be great for around here!
I was just kidding. If I had only 3 things I could take fishing it would be frozen shrimp, popping cork, and a Carolina rig. These produce anytime, anywhere for most anything that tugs the rod.
Welcome, like Bay 16 stated many of the local shops have seminars which would assist, most of them are free and usually in the Sunday sports section well in advance to the actual day. There are several fishing clubs. If you have some time on a rainy day troll back through this website and you will discover a boundless amount of info and opinions on Rod and Reeel set-ups,techniques and gear.Maybe even a laugh or two. The equipment you have may be adaptable for some species. Best of luck.
P.S. If you never threw a cast net find a large empty parking lot to practice before you try off the Bow of your boat:smiley:“I’m just sayin”
Welcome RWG. There’s plenty of striper fishing here too on the lakes if you want to travel a bit. Not going to see avg sizes like the south shore or Montauk if that’s what you are used to, but lots of fun on light tackle. Rods/reels you decide to pick up for reds are just about right.
Like said above, Stick it pole. We got one last summer and you wouldn’t believe how well those things work!!! The first time we tried it we were behind Kiawah anchoring in creek mouth with winds gusting 15 to 20 easy. That thing held us with no problem. The best part is that they are reasonably priced. I highly advise you to purchase one. You will find out real quick that you don’t want to be messing with an anchor.
