New to the area

Plan on moving to the Charleston area next year. Basic questions about the best months for my favorite fish. Kings, Spanish,Albies and blues. Probably wont go out more than 3 miles nearshore. Any opinions about the quality of fishing for my top 4 favorite fish is appreciated.

Excellent!

Welcome, Mike,

There is good fishing for all 4 along the beaches out to as far as you want to go. June is good, July, too. August gets a little slow due to the heat, but September usually sees another uptick, October is interesting. BTW, we don’t call them Albies here, the colloquial term is Bonita. Same fish (good fighting, fast action, taste like poo) just different names. If you ask about “albies” you may get some strange looks.

Good luck!

None of those fish live here. If you love to catch them you may be better off staying put where your at.

What he said, and welcome to the site! Eating albies around here is about the same as eating bow fin… aka mudfish. But to each their own.

So not to be stupid but albies and bonita are different fish. Use to fish for them a lot off cape cod. Bonita are delicious. Albies are shark bait.

Just to cover your back…
The easiest distinction between bonito and false albacore (albies) are the markings on the back. Atlantic bonito have straight markings on their backs, while the false albacore’s markings are more squiggly. … Both false albacore and bonito are schooling fish, and will sometimes school up together

Where do you catch these schooling fish? In the harbaa??!
